My name is Nauman Ashraf. I am a General and Addiction Psychiatrist with a longstanding commitment to education, leadership, and service. I live in Joplin, Missouri, with my lovely wife and two beautiful children—an 8-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son.

I graduated from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in 2004 and completed my General Psychiatry residency in 2012 and Addiction Psychiatry fellowship training in 2013 from the New York University School of Medicine. Currently, I serve as the founding Program Director for both the ACGME-accredited General Psychiatry residency and Addiction Medicine fellowship at Ozark Center in Joplin. In addition, I hold an appointment as Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at Kansas City University.

My leadership extends across several organizations. I have served as Secretary, President-Elect, and now President of Liaquat Alumni. Since 2022, I have served on the board of the Islamic Society of Joplin and presently lead it as the President. My roots in service run deep—from being the charter president of the Rotaract Club in Hyderabad, Sindh, to volunteering through Rotary International in Pakistan before moving to the U.S.

With extensive experience serving on hospital and non-profit boards, I bring deep insight into board governance, organizational growth, and strategic vision. I am dedicated to fostering professionalism, advancing merit-based leadership, and building transparent systems that restore trust and integrity within APPNA.

You may know me through my leadership as Chair of the APPNA Committee on Young Physicians (YPC) in 2022. With a dedicated team of volunteers, we empowered young professionals through mentorship, service, and career development. The number of matched residents mentored through YPC rose from 300 (since 2012) to over 600 in 2022. YPC also launched an endowment loan program for young Pakistani doctors, which has now grown to $200,000. In addition, we established an endowment fund for the Research Travel Award and implemented the YPC Observership Program, which provides clinical opportunities to more than 300 medical students and graduates from Pakistan every year.

As your Board Member, I aim to enhance APPNA’s educational mission and inclusive representation. My focus is on building responsibility that serves our diverse and growing membership with integrity and purpose. I believe in actionable leadership—listening with empathy, analyzing with clarity, and making decisions with conviction.

Let’s build a stronger APPNA, together.

Please vote for Dr. Nauman Ashraf, for APPNA Board of Directors 2026–27.

With gratitude and resolve,
Dr. Nauman Ashraf
